Ich habe auch mal ein wenig gegoogelt, habe neben dieser G(reen M)an-Theorie, die ich persönlich recht weit hergeholt halte, und nicht hoffe, daß uns King tatsächlich eine solch schwache Auflösung präsentiert, noch eine weitere Theorie gefunden, die meines Erachtens der Wahrheit um Gan eher gerecht werden würde (Wer weiß, vielleicht verknüpft King ja die beiden Möglichkeiten)

I have an idea about Gan and Roland. In Legends of Charlemange, Chapter 18 entitled the Battle of Roncesvalles, a character named Roland is betrayed by a character called Gan.

There is a fierce battle wherein close friends of Roland are killed. Gan's son is killed as well. Roland alerts King Charlemagne of Gan's treachery by blowing a horn 3 times.

This scene certainly seems reminescent of the one that Roland remembered/ dreamed about in Book 5.

In Book 6, the King (Stephen) is told by Roland that he must finish the books and continue to write about the Dark Tower. That is also when Gan is mentioned.

I'm just reaching, but it certainly seems interesting...
